MORE DEFINITION TO THE ARCHED WINDOWS

We are really happy with the trim work on the curved windows. Also the corbles have arrived for the roof peaks, really nice!

The wait for the french doors, pantry, and eyebrow windows continues. The silence is deafening, humm???

Soffits, curve trim, roof and siding

It’s been a hive of activity this week. Every evening when we go to have a loo,k we find so much progress that has been made. The cedar soffits are looking spectacular, the curve shadow trim on the main peak and around the big window are adding real beauty to our Maple forest adaption. The roof is coming along and the roofers are moving faster each day. The framing crew started putting up the Divinchi cedar shingles on the main peak, wow!
We noticed that Hometime is building a new house this year – and was using Divinchi on their roof!

I think that if this material had been available in the 90’s that they would have used it on the Maple Forest.

Jerimiah has added curved trim pieces; and roofers are getting started.

Over the last couple of days Jeremiah has been adding our shadow boards and trim to the arch window area. The peak lap siding was added and more banding is appearing. Today he trimmed the arch window and framed the decorative shutter pieces. We are still waiting for the french doors.
The roofers have arrived and are starting to install the Divinchi slate tiles. They started working on the swoop side and by the end of the day started making pretty good progress.
I spent the afternoon with the plumber and electrician, making lots of water and lighting decisions and also realizing how many things I still have left to decide.

WINDOW INSTALL WEEK 1

We were happy to receive our first shipment of windows last week. The breakfast nook, kitchen and power room windows are all here. Also part of the master bedroom arch window/door arrived.
Over the weekend we took tons of pictures. Just one minor glitch we found, one of the transom windows in the kitchen was swapped with the power room window. The window is exactly the same size, we just accidentally put the wrong number or dividers (3) instead of (4). I’m sure Jeremiah will fix it for me. Word is that the roofers finally showed up today so I’ll try to get some pictures of that. Also another shipment of windows is supposed to arrive at Lyndale glass tomorrow. I’m told not to expect the entire order, so we will see.

WINDOWS PT 1

The first shipment of windows have arrived. Most of the lower level windows are here and Jeremiah and Co. have already installed them. All transoms are perfectly even, we are very pleased with the attention the crew gave to these details. We are still waiting for the Marvin shipment of the french doors and curved top windows.

Things have been very messy here since the wind and rains have returned. We were finally able to get the roof covered so we can stop using the shop vac to remove gallons and gallons of rain that was still pouring in with each storm. So it may not look like much to anyone else, but it’s wonderful to us.

B SECTION REAR DORMER

I was supprised the way the north west corner of the new section of the house came together. Because of the steep slope the our lot, this corner comes down so low it completely blocks access to the stairway. We will be getting new stairs eventually that lead to the main entrance

The eyebrow window has taken shape over the last couple of days. We had a bit of a head scratcher because there is no floor to support the inside walls of the dormer. It is mostly finished but will only take full shape with the north section is completed.

The North section shell

We have had some really great activity on the north wing of the structure during the last week or so. The final ridge beam was raised by Jerimiah and his crew. Unfortunatly we missed the raising, but it was done the “old fashioned way” without the assistance of any modern equipment. Just Man power and a come-a-long. It looks great and we are more excited than you would think to see it sitting perfectly

because we can only building the shell of the north section right now, we needed to raise the ridge beem to meet the main ridge beem for engineering/ cost control purposes.

My what beautiful Swoops we have!

The swoops have been installed and our framer Jerimiah and his crew have been working quickly to get the roof covered with OSB asap. You will notice that since we did not build the garage section with the breezeway, we were able to extend the swoop the entire length of the house. We have also had a few pieces of trim go up with one paticular curved piece that accents the swoop which looks just perfect to us. Bird boxes are being framed, and that little overhang problem I had has been taken care of.
