June 1st is the day that earthworks is allowed to begin again. The landscapers have made some good progress the last week or so removing plastic sheets and fabric barriers to start shaping the new landscape.
The stones for the pathway arrived today.

The balcony has arrived and has been installed. I know it looks like it is taking over the front of the house, but I believe that when the wrap around railings are completed on the lower level, everything will work together. We are waiting for the curved planters, because we made a last minute change.

Now that the beams are wraped we can receive the Juliet Balcony that will rest on them. We have asked Architectural Elements to design and Manufacture the balcony and a pair of matching curved flower boxes.

Last weekend we had Mike from MJH construction out to put the copper caps on our braces and wrap the beams that extend thru the outside of the house. Lynden sheet metal pre cut the pieces and Mike molded them to the shape of the beams and braces. We are very happy with the results.

The arched millwork for the main door, the master bedroom and the pantry window, have arrived. The finish carpenter is scheduled to be here at the end of the month.
We had a flood of mud and water come into the house this winter and had to have a number of areas repaired. We are back in business now and things should start rolling along again.

Our exterior lights arrived a few weeks ago. After months and months of ordering and returning samples from Flo at New Grand Light in Connecticut. we finally believe that we have matched the original MFC exterior lamps. We decided to get the 6″ for the main floor, but we added 2 7″ lamps for the Master window unit. We would have loved to have all 7″ lamps but the base would not fit onto the arch/brackets. Flo was great and we really appreciate her dedication.

There was no information at all that I could find about how the original MFC placed the gutters and downspouts. When it was suggested that I would have to have a clunky downspout attached to my lovely arch and post, I was very unhappy. I had no idea why I never saw such an ugly thing on the original. So I spent some time on HOUZZ to see what ideas I could come up with. It seemed so simple, a rain chain – beautiful and a perfect solution! The only thing wrong is that there are so many choices, we spent hours arguing over which one to buy, but in the end it was just the simple copper cup that one out. I was surprised that Jane came to the same decision about her house in North Carolina for the same reason.
Also the Eyebrow window finally arrived and was installed this week. We had a little trouble when the window I ordered did not match the framing design. But Jemimah

It’s been a hive of activity this week. Every evening when we go to have a loo,k we find so much progress that has been made. The cedar soffits are looking spectacular, the curve shadow trim on the main peak and around the big window are adding real beauty to our Maple forest adaption. The roof is coming along and the roofers are moving faster each day. The framing crew started putting up the Divinchi cedar shingles on the main peak, wow!
We noticed that Hometime is building a new house this year – and was using Divinchi on their roof!
